Who We Are

First Baptist Church Highlands is a body of believers who have been saved by the grace of God alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, for the glory of God alone, as taught in the sacred Word of God alone.

The purpose of our church is to glorify the one and only God through worshipping Him, preaching His gospel to the lost, and discipling His saints. In doing these things we preach the whole, unadulterated gospel of grace, while also proclaiming God’s perfect and eternal Law.

Our Distinctives

Confessional

We are a confessional church, meaning that we hold to a historic confession of faith that unites us in doctrine. We profess that the creeds and confession we affirm should not be held at the same level of authority as the Holy Bible, but they are truthful insofar as they teach biblical truth. We, as a church, believe that the most biblically accurate of the historic confessions is the 1689 Second London Baptist Confession of Faith. We also heartily affirm the Abstract of Principles, the Apostle’s Creed, and the Nicene Creed.
Congregational

We are a congregational church, meaning that we believe in the authority of the local church. We are not governed by a larger entity, and thereby have autonomy in conducting our affairs. What this means is that our church has authority as a whole body of believers, with individual members voting on church matters. In addition, we are led by a plurality of elders which is comprised of the pastoral staff, as well as lay-elders. All of this information can be viewed in our Constitution and Bylaws, which can be attained by contacting the church office.
